Big Brother/ Sister Hospital Bag

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post or a review post. The product suggestions are items I have used and think are great for this purpose.

BIG NEWS: I have another nephew arriving in June. This will be 4 nephews and 2 nieces. This means that my parents will now have 8 grandchildren ranging from 10 to newborn. This also means that my baby brother and his wife will have 2 little boys to chase after. I adore my nieces and nephews almost as much as I do my kids.

My daughter, second child, and sunshine was a surprise, so I didn't get to prep things for her big brother like I would have liked to do. However, everyone that was so sweet to bring gifts remembered my little man. So, I'm making my nephew a gift for the hospital. I think he will really like it, so I wanted to share with you guys as well.

1. I suggest you start with a backpack instead of a tote or duffle. These are much easier for little guys to carry around. also, the little guy can continue to use it and it will help mom and dad keep little guy organized on the go while they are keeping up with new little baby too. I suggest the Lil' Go Backpack from Thirty-One. It is by far the best backpack I have used for the kids, so I'm sure it will be perfect for my nephew. It is available in girl and boy prints.

2. Include a gift for big brother/ sister to give to the new baby. I decided on a book. Wrap it up and include a tag for "new baby" from "big sibling".

3. Get drinks and snacks. I would stay away from high sugar snacks. It would be a good idea to include bottles of water and another non-high sugar drink as well. A gift card for meals would be great too. Whoever is watching big sibling can make sure they have snacks and food.

4. A blanket is a good idea as well, no matter what time of year it is. Hospitals get cold.

5. I'm also including a water bottle and snack container because those are just great for kids to have.

6. Don't forget to include items to keep big brother busy. I'm including coloring books, crayons, and puzzles. This all depends on the age of big sibling.

7. Other items you could include to make a child smile and help make it easier on the sitter are: pull ups, extra clothes, small toys, a book, a stuffed animal, flashlight, and other items.

Helping the sitter and the parents compile a list would be great as well. If you give it to them prior to the birth, you could include suggestions on other items to add (tablet, headphones, mp3 player, favorite stuffed animal, etc). If you wait until the hospital, you can let the sitter and parents know ahead of time. They are thinking of getting things ready for the new baby and things can easily be forgotten. I am a huge list maker. I've been making one for my parents to share with mybrother.

What would you include in a hospital bag?
