5 Fun Activities That Will Keep Your Child Healthy

When you live in the south, your pace is a bit slower. It is not uncommon to sit on the grass as the generations of parents and grandparents recline on the porch swing. In the south, this is a tradition. Family stories are handed down through the telling and retelling of events that formed us as a people and as a family.
Why it matters

No family escapes the challenges of life. We all face our share of hardships. Generations before us fought their battles, and we will fight ours. The future generations will fight theirs as well. Society will dictate what issues we will face as a nation, and technology will dictate the tools we will use to fight our battles. But the basics are the same.

Whether your battle takes place in 1900 or in 2018, the basic core values of a person (child or adult), establishes your foundation to be healthy and happy. These core values are:
  • Faith in God
  • Faith in family
  • Faith in yourself
All other talents, skills, and accomplishments branch out from this tree of our foundation.
Including the core values

There are many activities we can choose to help us to be physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy. But, in all things, we must respect our values. These values are not things we do; they are things we are. These are the standards we use to measure our success. When we teach our children an activity, we mentally challenge ourselves. Will this activity sustain our faith in God, family, and our person? If we can say yes, we are free to press on with the knowledge that success is inevitable.

5 activities that will keep your child healthy

Keeping our values in mind, what do we pursue to keep our family healthy?

Music and dancing

Music is a powerful tool. Used properly it opens the doors to beauty and life in ways we cannot imagine. It has the strength to free our minds. The very angels in heaven sing and dance for the glory of God. Dance is a wonderful way to express ourselves and to make us physically strong. As we support each other, dance builds our family unit. There are a few expenses, such as leotards, ballet slippers, a dance bag, and a teacher.

Marathon for a cause

We all know that raising money to help those who are in need is a good thing. It is not just good for those you help, but it is good for your family. Train your children to prepare for the walk, run, or swim event. Teach them how to set up a Crowdfunding site and how to safely promote that site. This is a great way to teach your child compassion, while they are building their physical and spiritual caricature.

Painting

Your kid might want to take an art class. They may want to paint beautiful pictures of people, nature, or animals. They may also want to paint fences the garage, and their room. This will take a little patience and training, but they can do it if you just give them a chance

Sponsorship

As the summer months are nearing, the long days of summer vacation are knocking on our door. Help your child create a summer reading program. A trip to the library and some research online is all you need to create a reading list that will fit well with their coming curriculum. Let your kids send out emails or Twitter/Facebook posts asking for family members to sponsor their work. The child agrees to read the book and provide an online book report and each of their sponsors will contribute the set amount to their fund. The money can be for an end of summer trip, a new bike, or the fee to enroll in the sport of their choice in the fall.

Gardening

Now is a good time to plant a raised or backyard garden. Your child can plant flowers, veggies, or herbs. Let them learn about the nature of the plants. As a family, learn how to plant and harvest your crops. This is a great way to learn, get exercise, and get your kids to try new foods.

So, the key to being healthy and happy is to keep your goals, dreams, past, and future balanced. You can do it if you try and your kids will thank you for it.
