Christmas Traditions, Sugar Cookies, and Domino Sugar

Disclaimer: I have not been asked or compensated to write this post. It is simply a cool resource I wanted to share with y'all!

I have always wished I could bake cookies. I love cookies, but never successfully make pretty cookies. Well, the Christmas Tbomb turned two, I decided I was going to learn, no matter how long it took. Since then, we have made and decorated Christmas cookies together. No matter what they look like, we take them to the family Christmas Eve breakfast. I think the family has come to look forward to them.

This year, I was looking for a new recipe and wanted to change things up again, but wasn't sure how to proceed. My Mother-In-Law come to my rescue. She had been reading Southern Living, as we all do, and came across an ad she saved for me, along with some cookie baking tips.

The ad directed me to this Domino Sugar website, and includes a recipe, tips, and cookie templates for these snowman cookies. It all comes in a pretty downloadable PDF all ready to go. I'm ecstatic to try these this year, and wanted to share with you all.

Happy Cookie Baking!

Perfect Camera Bag for Techies from #BangGood

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

As many of you know, I am a complete geek and I'm a paranormal investigator and bigfoot researcher. What does this mean? Not only do I carry several cameras, but a lot of sensitive equipment around with me and it must be protected. I can't have it being slung around in a bag banging into everything else. That would not be acceptable.

This is the best camera bag that I have used and I love that it is a backpack, that just adds to its functionality. The dividers are adjustable so that you can put your camera pieces or equipment the way you need. It is very versatile. The mesh pockets in the flap are perfect for cords and small accessories. The combination lock included is perfect to keep your items secure.

On the side is loops and mesh pockets, perfect or tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks. They are very handy, not only for transportation but to keep them handy during set up.

The material the bag is made of is of great quality and will last many years of heavy use. The dividers are sturdy and thick, allowing for maximum protection. I love that the lining is this awesome bright green (see below), making it so much easier to see the contents. This is the perfect camera bag for a techie, photographer, or any other person that has to carry equipment that needs to not be broke! It is even comfortable to carry. It is a medium sized bag, making it not cumbersome to carry, but the space is used wisely!

BangGood is a great place to get your gear. They have quality items at great prices! Check them out on Facebook too!

Backup and Store Files With PhotoFax & Hello Kitty

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

Comp-1_00001

I don't know about you guys, but I think Hello Kitty is adorable. My daughter is obsessed with bows, causing her to be obsessed with Hello Kitty as well. You mix Hello Kitty with tech, and you definitely get my attention.

I had the opportunity to try out this PhotoFast Hello Kitty Max (32 GB) drive, and I knew this would be an awesome soltuion. While it is made for apple devices, you can use an adapter and use it with android devices as well. You can use this to back up your photos and videos to your computer easily. You can also use it to store things you may need on other devices. For instance, I use it to store movies that keep the kids occupied, and ones that I'm wanted to watch. I just plug it into my tablet (with the adapter) and watch away. What a great solution. You don't have to take up all your device's storage with movies- just plug this gem in.

This great little device boasts a high speed data transfer rate, one touch to complete full data backup, and easily backup personal social and networking site photos. You can even lock aps that you don't want to backup with the accompanying app. It is even small enough to take anywhere, so you can backup anytime you want.

Bouncy Bands: A Lifesaver In My Homeschool

Disclaimer: I received a sample to try out. All opinions are my own.

Picture this: Sitting at the table with books, papers, crayons, and pencils spread all about. A 5 year old and a 2 year old sitting at opposite chairs with mom in the middle. After about 30 minutes of lessons, it turns into a zoo The kids get restless and so does mom! Imagine being able to add one thing to the homeschool area that will diminish all of that. This is not a fairy tale. Bouncy Bands to the rescue!

I posted to press release a bit back, and have been honored to try these bands out in my homeschool and even give one set to a child with major SPD issues. These have really helped both children, even my Tbomb with some mild SPD tendencies. Allowing your child to wiggle and move will help them sta concentrating longer and absorb more because they are not focusing on not being allowed to move. This is especially true with a 5 year old.

Most kids are very active, but when you add in other situations, conditions, or stresses, you generally get really active kids. Even when they are sitting still, they are thinking about moving and cannot concentrate. Even adults are like this. I concentrate better if I am clicking a pen, although it gets on the nerves of those around me. I am certain that Bouncy Bands would even help most adults.

Bouncy Bands

Bouncy bands can be added to chairs, desks, and other things. I actually tried it out by putting them on Tbomb's bed rails for when he needs some cool down time. It worked brilliantly. You can use them in any way that your family needs, or in the classroom. You can purchase Bouncy Bands for chairs or desks for less than $15, and it is well worth it. Replacement bands are even available.

I kept the chair set for Tbomb since we do school at the kitchen talbe, and gave the desk set to a family friend. He needed something to help out, and I'm certain that Bouncy Bands will be the solution he and his teachers are looking for. Let the kids move and fidget, all the while keeping the class in order and not distracting the other kids. This is simply a brilliant product.

Book Review: Learn, Absorb & Praise Classic Collection, Scope and Sequence + #Giveaway

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

As many of you know, I homeschool my children. One of the things I love the most about homeschooling is that I get the opportunity to work Bible study into their schedule and even weave it in with math, reading, science, and more. It is so amazing to see them get a concept and see their faces light up. This goes for core subjects, as well as with Bible Study. This past week, we learned about being filled with the spirit and when Tbomb got the concept after listening to "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High." To see his face light up and him explain how he felt in his heart, was priceless.

Kodabug listens and smiles along, and although I know she doesn't understand, she is learning a love of praise, the Bible, and prayer. Graham Blanchard, a Christian publisher, has a great collection of books for toddlers to learn about God with. The Learn, Absorb & Praise Classic Collection is one of their most popular, and I had a chance to review it with my little ones, and absolutely love it!

This Classic Collection ($26.97) include 3 amazing board books to help start your child out loving to learn about God. The set includes Jesus Shows Me, All of Me That You Can't See, and Mud Puddle Hunting Day. One of my favorite things about this set is that it comes wrapped in a beautiful casing that allows you to leave a personal note to the recipint. There is even a bonus- The Art of Gratitude, with tips and templates for a child to practice giving thanks. This is the perfect time of year to stress being thankful, when the world seems so greedy.

It is so easy to find books to expand an adult's understanding and love for God and Jesus' teaching. The resorces for children, especially very young children are lacking. Graham Blanchard has stepped in and made these books more available and with a wide variety of titles, your children will continue to grow in their love and understanding.

Graham Blanchard has recently published a document to help parents use these books to teach their children about God. The Scope And Sequence document is available as a PDF download and includes  the scripture, faith concept, nature/ science concept, animal kingdom, how the book relates to relationships, and even the symbols included in the book. Download the document here.

Giveaway

Would you like to win a copy of this set for your children, or other special child in your life? This is your opportunity. Just comment below and tell me either what you love about teaching children about God- or, what is your biggest challenge with teaching children about god. I'm so excited to hear from you. A winner will be announced Thanksgiving day! Be sure to include your email address, so that I can reach you if you win!

Book Review: how Machines Work: Zoo Break!

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own

How Machines Work - primary image My Tbomb loves science of any kind. His favorite is of course the Solar System, but lately, he has been interested in how things work, especially when it turns out to be simple machines combined to make more complex machines. This book, How Machines Work: Zoo Break!, came at just the right time.

The author, David McCaulay, explains 6 simple machines in a fabulously creative way. The zoo animals use these machines to mastermind a zoo escape. In the process, he explains how these machines work, how they can be used, and the children realize the genius behind evens imple machines.

Tbomb loves this book. He loves that it is a pop-up/ movable book and he can experiment while traveling through their journey. I love that he is having fun, learning about something he loves, and learning how fun learning can be.

Follow the mad antics of Sloth and his side-kick Sengi as they try to break out of the zoo with the help of levers, pulleys, screws, inclined planes, wedges and wheels. Brought to life through pop-ups and pull-outs meaning you can explore six simple machines, from bicycles and cranes to hammers and drills, through interactive science. Packed with engaging, hands-on activities, David Macaulay's How Machines Work will gear kids up for scientific and engineering greatness!
My plan is to work this book into our homeschool curriculum and by the end of the unit study, we will have built a robot using simple machines. I'm not sure how well it will work out, but I'm looking forward to it and will be sure to share as our journey continues.

SriCam WiFi Security Camera From #BangGood

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

This little gadget has become one of my favorites ever. I love the functionality and usefulness of this camera. It is pretty easy to set up and has some amazing features.

It has 10 LED IR lights that can allow for night vision up to 10 meters. It boasts features like motion detection alarm, iPhone/ smartphone viewing, pan, tilt, and multi-language capabilities.

One of my favorite features of this camera is the 2-way audio. I haven't tested this extensively, but I'm really looking forward to using it with the kids. I think it will be pretty handy when the Mr and I are spending evenings outside. We can watch the kids and talk to them "get back in your bed Tbomb," and such. Don't worry, it is also password protected. To gain access to these amazing features and more, simply install the app, scan the QR code, and begin the setup process.

The package comes with everything you need to get started, including installation gear.  I had intended that this camera be used on paranormal investigations. It would be perfect, but after playing around with it, I have a better plan. This is going to be our new baby monitor. I can view it on my phone or computer, I can hear and see what they are doing, I can add more units, I can get alerted because of movement, and I can even talk to them. What better baby monitor. While it would be perfect for paranormal investigations, but because of its amazing features, it would be best used as a baby monitor. After all, our children's safety comes first!

BangGood is a great place to get your gear. They have quality items at great prices! Check them out on Facebook too!

You can purchase this awesome camera directly from BangGood for just $36.66

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

My husband, even at 31, has never grown out of his love for Legos. He has been aching to get our son into them and out of the mega blocks. Well, this is going to be the Christmas we do that. I'm a little nervous, but luckily Tbomb has never been one to explore with his mouth. I wasn't sure where to start, as I was never into Legos (unless they are Star Wars themed). When I got the opportunity to review BrickSwag, I knew that was the place to start. Well, let me tell you- I was right. The Mr and Tbomb are very happy boys!

The package arrived very quickly, and in a very beautiful box. I was definitely pleasantly surprised with the contents. I've gotten subscription boxes before that left me looking for more. 8 Entertaining Tricks From Southern Season

I got a really cool email from Southern Season that I wanted to share with you guys. Their vision and the vision of The Palmetto Queen is so aligned that sometimes it is scary. There was one line in the email that I fell in love with. "tips and tricks to help make entertaining this holiday season as smooth as a Southern accent." I knew I had to share with you guys!

I also loved this:

In the South, there are no strangers,

just friends we haven't met yet.

  1. Need a quick hostess gift? Stick with a household staple like wine or a candle. Buy a cute Christmas wine bag or cork to pair with the wine, and opt for a candle in a festive scent to bring the Christmas cheer.
  2. Make several different kinds of your favorite drop cookies. Place them close together on a parchment-lined sheet pan and freeze them. Once they¹re frozen, transfer them to freezer-safe Ziploc bags that are marked with the cooking temperature and instructions. Use them throughout the holiday season as needed they¹ll only take a few minutes longer to cook right out of the freezer. Your home will be filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies all season long!
  3. Don¹t stress if you don¹t want to invest in a full holiday dinnerware set. Choose select festive pieces like salad plates, mugs, and platters that blend with your everyday dinnerware.
  4. When hosting overnight guests, strata is a great option for breakfast or lunch and can be a complete meal if it includes vegetables and protein. Assemble it the night before for the best results (and a stress-free morning). Biscotti and granola also keep for a long time and can be made ahead. Add fresh fruit and yogurt, and you¹ll be good to go.
  5. If you¹re hosting a casual get together, don¹t be afraid to use paper. Paper companies like Meri Meri and Caspari are making plates and napkins with an array of patterns that are beautiful and festive.  And the best part is it makes clean up a cinch.
  6. Pairing wine with your Thanksgiving or Christmas meal can pose a bit of an issue it needs to be something that can stand up to the rich, earthy, salty and, at times, sweet and savory fare something with fruit, power and acid. One easy answer? Invite Rosé to the party. The Vigneti Massa Rosato 'Terra: Sic Est¹ has both power and structure while offering bright acidity that works well with heavier meals. It¹s a true red wine drinker¹s Rosé.
  7. Plan ahead. Think of what you can do several weeks ahead, such as purchasing table decorations, candles and pre-made snacks, and go ahead and mark those off the list. Iron the tablecloth and napkins, polish the silver. Then make a list of semi-perishable items that be purchased a week ahead and perishable items that can be purchased a couple of days ahead. This will greatly ease the pain of last-minute shopping trips.
  8. Make sitting down to dinner fun for the whole table by placing Christmas crackers at every place setting. An old English tradition, party crackers usually contain a hat, a joke and a small gift for each guest to enjoy.
Thank you Southern Season, for sharing these wonderful tips with The Palmetto Queen

Gift Idea: Teach, Love, Inspire Necklace #QuaJewelry

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

I always loved picking out gifts for my teachers. I wanted to show them how much their hard work meant to me. I would make gifts some years and buy gifts some years. I wish I had the opportunity to go back in time and give this gorgeous necklace to my teachers. These days, I am a teacher and this necklace embodies my thoughts on teaching, especially teaching my own children. I wear this necklace proudly. In fact, I wear it on the same chain as my cross and keep them both close to my heart.

This necklace from Quan Jewelry is the perfect weight, and has a pretty silver tone that is not too shiny, but just shiny enough. The letters are engraved, and the apple is a separate piece adding another dimension to the already gorgeous necklace. It comes with a 16" chain that can be extended to 18". It also comes on this gorgeous gift card and in a sheer bag that makes it perfect for gift giving.

This is perfect for a public school teacher, private school teacher, professor, student teacher, homeschool mom/dad, and even a Sunday school teacher. Show the special teacher in your life just how much they mean to you.

5 Reasons to Keep Pillsbury Crescent Rolls On Hand This Thanksgiving and #Giveaway #ThanksgivingWithPillsbury

This time of year, I do a lot of baking and a lot of trying new recipes. Honestly- living in the south, I tend to not be in the kitchen a lot during the summer. When it starts to cool off and Thanksgiving is nearing, the oven and stove get cranked up, and my kitchen gets a lot of use. We cook comfort food, desserts, try new things, and I make my husband's favorite appetizers. I keep Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls on hand at all times, but especially in the fall- they are a great addition to the household staples, and can be used in so many different ways.

1. My husband's favorite reason is that I make his favorite appetizers this time of year. I swap sausage balls and Bacon Bombers each weekend, so he has some manly snacks for game playing and football watching. Bacon Bombers are super easy.

  • Cube Mozzarella into 1/4 inch squares
  • Cut Pillsbury Crescent Rolls in half
  • Wrap cheese in Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • Wrap in Bacon
  • Fry until the bacon is crispy
  • Yum-O

2. They go with everything. Keep Pillsbury Crescent Rolls in the fridge at all times and you always have a quick bread to go with soups and great southern cooking.

3. They are an awesome pie crust. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls can be layered in pans for a quick pie or cobbler crust. You can even use them for pot pies. They are truly versatile.

4. Make fun dinners for the kids- surprise the kids with pigs in a blanket, mummy dogs, pizza rolls, and more just by using Pillsbury Crescent rolls and your kids' favorite foods.

5. New recipes. At least half of the recipes I come across, and want to try, have Pillsbury Crescent Rolls in them. By keeping them on hand, you can try these new recipes whenever the mood strikes.

Why not incorporate some of these fun Pillsbury Crescent Roll recipes into your thanksgiving dinner- the main course, specials for the kids, appetizers, or desserts- they cover it all.

5 Behaviors That Help Teens Learn To Bounce Back

Young People Grow In Confidence Through Risks And Responsibilities, Says Expert On Adolescent Behavior

It’s no secret that adolescence is a time of high stress for many teens.

Although some young people navigate these difficult years with reasonable aplomb, many struggle and are unable to cope as they run into troubles in school, at home or in their neighborhoods.
That’s where adults can step in and aid them in cultivating the mental tools they need to bounce back from life’s most trying moments.

“It’s our job as parents and educators to help our young people develop the flexibility and resiliency to withstand the challenges they face on their path to adulthood,” says Linda Mornell (www.Lindamornell.com), an adolescent therapist and author of the book “Forever Changed: How Summer Programs and Insight Mentoring Challenge Adolescents and Transform Lives.”

Mornell has worked with teenagers for almost 45 years, both through her private counseling practice and as founder of the highly effective nonprofit organization Summer Search, which provides disadvantaged young people with challenging and even life changing mentoring and summer opportunities.

She says that encouraging the following five behaviors can help teens learn to bounce back rather than fold under the stresses of the adolescent years.

Reach out rather than retreat. According recent research, the adolescent brain is flexible and highly sensitive to stress. Teens who isolate, withdraw into themselves, when stressed rather than reach out to others miss the opportunity of learning different ways of handling and relieving those stresses as well as diffusing intense feelings in a more positive ways. “Adolescents routinely say the opposite of what they feel,” Mornell says. “Go away often means please stay. Sit down and wait.”

Tell their story. The ability to put one’s story into coherent words is the chance to see it from a distance and gain perspective as well as compare it with others, which creates a sense of community. Everyone has a story to tell. Avoid interrupting when your adolescent suddenly feels like talking. Listen longer.

Separate from home and parents. In order to gain autonomy and confidence in themselves as individuals it is essential that adolescents find appropriate ways to separate physically and psychologically from their parents. This is increasingly hard in today’s world of constant connection through telecommunication. For teenagers this over communication often creates dependency and reinforces that the world is a challenging and even dangerous place and that they are not capable of learning to handle those challenges and dangers on their own. Mornell advises parents to, “Avoid constant texting and other forms of telecommunication. Give your teen room to make their own decisions and choices.”

Engage in exploration and positive risk-taking. It is hard to learn to bounce back from challenges if there have been no significant difficulties, no walls to hit to bounce back from. Encourage your teen to reach out of familiar and safe comfort zones and take positive risks like meeting new people, exploring different activities, and participating in scary sounding summer opportunities like wilderness expeditions. Research opportunities for independent activities and challenging programs.

Take responsibility for others. Caretaking whether it’s babysitting, volunteering in a home for elders, or standing up for kids who are bullied in school is one of the very best ways to increase resiliency. When teenagers lend their hand and their strengths to help, empower, protect, and care for others they experience and support eternal values as well as enhance the sense of their own worth. “Make talking about family values a part of dinner table conversation,” Mornell advises. “Remember, it’s our job as parents and educators to help our young people develop the flexibility and resiliency to withstand the inevitable challenges they will face on their path to adulthood and… learn how to bounce, bounce, b-o-u-n-c-e!”

Linda Mornell (www.Lindamornell.com) is the founder of Summer Search, a nonprofit organization that provides disadvantaged young people with challenging summer opportunities and life-changing mentoring. She is also the author of the book “Forever Changed: How Summer Programs and Insight Mentoring Challenge Adolescents and Transform Lives.” Mornell was born on a farm in Muncie, Ind. How Nasty Is Your Keyboard? + 5 Things I Do To Keep Mine Clean

I was sent an email this morning about an infographic from Quill and definitely wanted to share it with my fabulous readers here at The Palmetto Queen. I'm a stickler for keeping my computer clean, but there is a reason for it. When I was in high school, we did a biology experiment where we all used a swab and took samples from different areas of the school. I swabbed the keyboard in the music room, which I touched on a daily basis. Well, it was the germiest place that was sampled. Since then, I have been kind of obsessed with keeping things that are touched like that clean- which translates to keeping my computer keyboard clean.

Here is the infographic and after, I will share 5 things I do to keep my keyboard clean.

Dirty Work: How Nasty is Your Keyboard?

5 Things I Do To Keep My Keyboard Clean

1. I keep antibacterial wipes formulated for electronics handy (this is great for paranormal investigations and events too- I just wipe equipment down before packing them up and I'm good to go)

2. I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer close by- I can use it before I sit down to work and also after I've been working and I'm going to do something for the kids or cook.

3. I keep a keyboard cover on my laptop- I can easily take it off, clean it, let it dry, and put it back.

4. I use a kidlid. It keeps my kids from getting their germs all over my laptop while they are watching a movie- because kids equal germs. haha

5. If someone in my house is sick, I am constantly using wipes and lysol on my computer.

How to Motivate Your Homeschooled Child

To keep your child motivated to do his or her schoolwork, it’s best to plan ahead. Traditional classroom teachers use external rewards to keep their students on track, and incorporate techniques to foster internal motivation, as well. You can use the same methods with your homeschooled child to help him or her achieve success.

External Motivators

External motivators are those a child receives from others such as prizes and gifts. Some effective rewards include:

  • Sweet treats: When your child completes a big assignment, let him or her choose a healthy sweet treat
  • Superhero day: As a reward for a job well done, let your child dress up as his or her favorite superhero or super-heroine. Costumes are fun and can be powerful lures for good behavior.
  • Coveted games and toys: Does your child love to do puzzles or connect blocks? Give him or her an extra hour of block or puzzle time as a motivating reward for working hard.
  • Field-trip pass: If your student has been studying all week, give him or her a Friday off to go on a field trip. Take him or her to the park, the zoo, or a ball game.
  • Prize jar: Having a jar of prizes can be motivating. Fill your jar with inexpensive toys from the dollar store or folded notes with extra privileges written on them, such as “an extra fifteen minutes at recess.”

Intrinsic Motivators

For your homeschooled student to be motivated internally, it’s important to foster his sense of self-worth. Intrinsic motivation comes from inside your child due to his or her interest in the subject matter, self-confidence, or potential satisfaction in a job well done. Some of the ways your can foster this in your child include:

  • Praise: You can keep your student encouraged by giving positive feedback when he or she has done a good job. Focusing on the positive progress your child makes can encourage perseverance.
  • Make the subject matter interesting: If your child has to write an essay, let it be on a topic that interests him or her. The goal is to learn to organize a paper, not to write on some arbitrary and dry topic. To teach a youngster to count, let him or her count objects such as plastic bugs or seashells, which are far more intriguing to touch than counting plastic disks or dots.
  • Certificate of recognition: Giving your kid a certificate or award can build confidence.

To keep your homeschooled child motivated, give him or her a variety of external and internal rewards. Both tactics can help your student achieve success.

Album Review: Harry Connick Jr. #ThatWouldBeMe

Disclaimer: I received a product to review. All opinions are my own.

I am a huge fan of Harry Connick Jr. He is the crooner of our time and something about his voice and lyrics just draws me in. I know he's been busy with all of his projects, so hearing that he was releasing a new album left me full of excitement.

This album is beyond exceptional and you will not believe your ears when you hear that amazing smooth voice coming. The lyrics will blog your mind with true Harry Jr style. Hearing him makes me feel like I am in a club dressed up in my best sitting at a cocktail table.

5 Non-Candy Treats To Keep In Mind For The Holidays

We decided that this year we would actually allow the kids to trick-or-treat. Up until now, we've just dressed them up, watched movies, let them "trick or treat" at their great-grandparents- who live next door. We've made it a family tradition, but with Tbomb being 5 now and Kodabug 2, we decided to let them have a traditional Halloween. I had some anxiety, so the Mr's grandparents rode us around to people they have known for ages and family. We also visited a church and one of the local fire departments. They were super cute and really enjoyed the experience.

The only problem- my kids can't have sugar. Their great-grandparents and my mother surprised them Halloween morning with a ton of sugar-free candy and special Halloween Happy Meals (a tradition with their great-grandparents). We kept their favorites out of their treat bags- KitKats for Tbomb; and Hershey Bars and Reese Cups for Koda. The grown ups decided to enact the Trick-Or-Treat tax and left the rest for the Great Pumpkin. Next year we are going to participate in a Trunk or Treat and participate in the Teal Pumpkin project there.

This experience got me thinking about kids that can't have sugar, have allergies, and are on special diets. This has to be a difficult time of year for thos kids because there are treats everywhere. I want to share some ideas for non-candy treats. Keep these in mind for your next get-together, Christmas parties, and community events.

1. Crispy Green Fruit Crisps

*I did receive samples but I really do love this product and so do my kids.*
These dried fruit slices are absolutely amazing! They taste great and my kids love them. They actually ask for them as a snack. The flavor is great, no added ingredients, and easy to eat on the go. Consider Crispy Green Fruit Crisps for your next get-together or party. What a great option for not only kids who cannot have sugar, but who have certain allergies and for events that the kids need to be calm for.

These have become a staple in our home and I will be using them at every party I throw from now on. In fact, I have even considered keeping a case on hand to take to parties. Because- let's be honest- if a parent doesn't have a child with special dietary needs, they probably will not think about this!

2. Stickers/ Temporary Tattoos

Depending on the purpose, this can be an awesome alternative to candy for kids. Most kids love stickers and temporary tattos. However, here are some tips. If you are including temporary tatttoos, be sure to have a wet sponge on hand for application and baby oil for removal (just in case). If you are including stickers, be sure to provide paper or encourage the kids to wait until they are home to use the stickers.

3. Fun School Supplies

The holidays are a great time to find adorable and fun school supplies. The kids will love the fun factor and the parents will love that it is school suppplies. My kids will pick pencils and books over candy any day.

4. Random Party Favors

Kids are so easily amused that the simplest toys can keep them entertained. You could get a large bag of general party favors (noise makers, bouncy balls, puzzles, etc) and give them to kids. They will love it and it is definitely non-food.

5. Activity Books

Activity Books are definitely a favorite of mine to give out. It keeps thekids enterteained during and after the event. If I am sending them home, the parents are thankful because they have something to entertain the kids for a bit. This is something I always give kids that are going to have a long drive ahead of them. If it is a small group at an event, I'll tive them to all the kids. However, if it is a larger group, I have to either stick with stickers or get bulk packages of activity books, which are usually small.

If I am just giving treats to a few kids, I like to get the all in one kits that include the activity book, crayons, stickers, and a pouch- of course I would include Fruit Crisps as well.
