2014 Father's Day Gift Ideas

I don't know about any of you, but I start figuring out Father's day presents and plans around April. I know this may seem excessive, but I have my reasons. My husband goes through great pains to make sure that Mother's Day is special, and I try to do the same for him. Well, I'm a planner, so there is a lot of time spent on this.

Shopping for the perfect Father's Day gift is even harder. I don't know about any of you, but dads are hard to shop for. My husband is, my dad is, and my father-in-law is. When they want something, they either don't tell us, or they just get it.

That's okay though. I have searched to the far ends of the net. I have found five perfect Father's Day gifts for each type of dad: the geek, the adventurer, and the all around great dad.

2. August Bluetooth Headphones (My husband loves these- read the review)
4. CHIL Notchbook Tablet Case (This has saved his tablet- check it out)
5. Perfect book for the geek in your life.

1. The Amazing Bear Grylls Gerber Knife (Review Coming Soon)

Replicas Of Traditional Style Furnishings: Living in a Castle

Households that have traditional facades usually have an interior that matches the architectural style. Classic style furniture is available at specialty stores and manufacturers that produce reproductions of pieces from several different eras. For example, the Victoria age has been a very popular time period for revolutionary English furniture styles. Similarly, the French Rococo is another appealing furniture and interior design style of Europe.

Traditional furniture pieces are usually hand crafted and made of authentic wood. An aged texture is the desired appearance in any pieces that are supposed to replicate an old world appearance. For example, natural imperfections in the wood is actually desirable. Traditional furniture also has authentic hardware such as iron and brass nails and other fasteners. Aged leather with a faded texture is also a common feature of classic style furniture pieces. Reclaimed lumber is the first choice of material for rustic furniture that is inspired by old world designs.

For the living room, benches and coffee tables are some popular furnishings that are available in classic style replications. Traditional bedroom furniture includes beds, nightstands, dressers and cabinets. The drawers in some of these pieces have ring like handles that are influenced by designs from centuries ago.

Button tufted seats and backrests are some classic features in chairs, sofas and even headboards of traditional furniture pieces that are upholstered. Curved patterns are also signature features in chairs and tables. For example, cabriole legs define classic styles that have been used in furniture making for several centuries.

Summer Planning: #OrganizeMe

I spent most of last week planning out our summer and getting my planner in order. There are several steps to this, and something different for everyone. I'm going to show you how I organize and plan my family's summer.

Every December or January, I buy a simple monthly planner that I can just slip into my big planner that is actually my brain. This monthly planner is essential to planning every part of my schedule all year long, summer is no different. I got this one for about $1.50 at a local dollar store.

You most likely have everything you need. I use the monthly planner (or you can find some printables) and plan the whole summer at once. Grab some your planner, a pen, stickers (I use post it flags, yard sale stickers, punched paper, stars, and washi tape- I even cut some slips of paper for when I ran out o flags), highlighters, and lets get started.

Next, you need to gather other calendars. I used my google calendar (for my work due dates, special blog dates, and paranormal stuff). I also went online and found event calendars, library summer reading, Lowe's Build and Grow, and the free summer movies offered at my local theater.

By the time you are finished with my plan, you will have this:

Here is how I do it:

1. Add in appointments/ due dates/ important dates. I always record these things first because they are what I schedule the kids activities around. I use stickers for this.

  • Round stickers: Appointments that I need to remember, but I don't neccessarily have to be present for. This can include doctor appointments for anyone but myself and the kids and important dates for my husband's work.
  • Flags: Paralina recording dates and publishing dates. I also put paranormal investigations on flags. These are color coded. The orange and white strips for this too, but I ran out of flags this month.
  • Red strips (plus the bright pink one): Holidays
  • Purple strips: Blog posts due
  • Stars: Payment dates (this way I know to check the bank/ Paypal)
  • Orange strips: appointments
  • Pink cut outs: Dr appointments and important family days.
  • Washi tape is used for things that are over night.
2. Add in the events from the community calendar, library, Lowe's, and theater. I mark all accept the community events, even if I think we cannot go. The community events, I add to my google calendar because I sync that weekly. I also add them to this planner if I am pretty sure we will attend. Marking these down allow me to schedule appointments and my weeks easier. I use highlighters for this

  • Orange: Library events
  • Blue: Free movies at the local theater
  • Green: Lowe's Build and Grow
  • Pink: Grandparent plans
  • Yellow: Community events.
3. Make notes on the side of things that need to be done this month.

4. Make a bucket list of impromptu adventures, crafts, and trips to make with the kids. For instance, I know there are several crafts I want to make with the monster, I want to take him fishing, and we plan on camping a lot this year.

Following these steps should help get you a step closer to being organized all summer and making sure that you have fun, while still getting work and those pesky to dos done.

Important reminder: Don't fill your schedule too full that you forget to enjoy your kids and summer. Last minute plans have a place in our life too!

How do you keep your summer schedule organized?

O!Snap, An Indiegogo Campaign

A while ago, I reviewed the O!Snap headphone clip. I absolutely love it! It really is a lifesaver for anyone who wears headphones. I cannot count the times this genius product has kept my clumsy self from breaking my neck. (I just learned about another way it is handy- clip it around your coiled headphones and stick it to your fridge, locker, desk, or anything else metal!)

FUN FACT: Placing O!Snap on the same side as your microphone (if equipped) will keep the microphone angled directly in front of your mouth, allowing crystal clear voice calls no matter what you’re doing.
Well, the guys from O!Snap emailed me last week about a really cool thing they have going on. O!Snap has started an Indiegogo campaign to help them revamp their manufacturing.

This company is going places, and even has their first branding opportunity with a non-profit. Through O!Snap, Oregon Active (ORA) is offering limited time red clips. ORA provides adventure therapy for individuals with disabilities and life challenging conditions.

The great thing about this Indiegogo campaign is that when you support their goal, you get a O!Snap with the packages $4 and up. (You can support with as little as $2). If you are a retailer, there are special packages just for you!

So, follow my lead and go help out this fantastic company that is pioneering the way we listen and helping to make a difference!

*I was not reimbursed for this article, I just wanted to help these guys out!*

Father's Day Gift: Engraved Parker River Knife

Disclaimer: I received a sample in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.

As I mentioned before, my husband is very hard to shop for. He is even harder to surprise. So, when Parker River Knife asked me to review their engraved gift knives, I was ecstatic. When the knife arrived, I was quite impressed.

We received the Parker River "Classic" in redwood. Because my husband tends to lay them down while he is working, I had his initials engraved. That way, there was no mistaking that it was his.

This photo does not do the knife justice. It is the most beautiful knife I have ever seen and my husband loves it. He loves the way it cuts and the way it feels in his hand while using it. I know that this knife will be used for the rest of his life and passed own to our son and his son. I can not think of a better gift for a father to receive.

It can be engraved with anything your heart desires (as long as it will fit) and there are 5 fonts to choose from. The website has a lot of ideas of what can be engraved, if you just cannot make up your mind.

My favorite thing besides the look on his face was the packaging of the knife itself. The knife comes in a beautiful burlap gift bag. On the box is a penny and the reason for it.

"Why is there a penny taped to the knife?"

We often get this question.

In many cultures around the world the act of giving a knife as a gift is sometimes utilized to symbol the ending of a friendship or relationship. But knives are useful and beautiful tools that make great gifts. A tradition that goes along with knife giving in these areas is to include a small coin, usually a penny with any gift knife. When the receiver of the gift opens the present, they immediately give the penny back to the giver of the gift. This way they have symbolically purchased the knife, which prevents both the blade from going dull and the friendship from being severed.

We tape a penny to every box as a token of good luck to you the new owner of a knife, or for whoever is going to receive the knife as a gift.

Parker River knives are a treasured gift item. Our high quality products will be cherished for many years. If you are looking for a special something to mark an event or milestone in someones life, there is no better gift to give then a Parker River knife.

The above is from their website and actually answered a question for me. I have always been told to pay for a knife, even if it was given to you as a gift. When my grandmother gave me her beautiful mother-of-pearl inlay knife, mom gave me a penny to give to her. She told me it would never get dull. I didn't understand, but now I do. Thanks Parker River Knife.

Thanks to Parker River Knife, my husband beams with pride when he shows off his beautiful new knife. Even at work, everyone asks him where it came from and he answers with pride.

Organize Survival With Survive Monthly

Disclosure: I will receive a sample in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

Survive Monthly Logo

We live in trying times and everyone can benefit from a little preparation. No matter what your thought group is on the state of the world, everyone can agree that it never hurts to have a plan.

Preparing for survival is not only for doomsday scenarios, but for many other purposes.

Some reasons to prepare for a survival preparedness are:
  • Natural Disaster
  • Lost in The Woods
  • Camping Gone Wrong
  • Crash of the Economy
  • To Prove You Can Do It.
There are many reasons to have some survival items on hand. My family has recently started preparing for an emergency. We have started stashing canned goods and other non-perishables. We have also been making sure our camping gear is in order and that we have plenty of emergency items like flashlights that do not require outside power sources like batteries, gas, and electricity.

There are larger changes we have been discussing, like adding some solar panels to our home and purchasing a generator. These are things we have not made a decision on, but that are in our minds.

Some other preparations we have been making involve "training." We have been practicing making fires, tracking, and hunting. Purifying water is another item on our list.

With my family being cryptid investigators, we know that we have to be prepared for emergency situations that may arise during an expedition. We never know when a storm may hit at the last minute or if one of us may get lost.

Survive Monthly is a subscription service that will help you prepare for an emergency situation. Each month, you will receive 7-10 items per box. These items will be well worth the $39.99 price tag of the box. Items you may receive include long-term food kits, non-battery flashlight radios, and even solar blankets. The items are sure to be valuable to helping you prepare for any emergency situation.

Lucky for you, you can win a 3-month subscription to Survive Monthly. Enter below.

Girlie Glue: Must Have Baby Girls

Disclosure: I received a product in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.

Usually if I want to put a bow on the princess, I have to attach it to a headband first. Sometimes I don't want the headband because they slip down. Sometimes I just want the bow. I am a girlie girl and I have really embraced having a baby girl and bless her heart, she get dressed up a lot.

Girlie Glue sent me some of their glue to try out with the princess. It didn't take me long to fall in love.

I still occasionally attach the bows to a headband, but usually just the heavier ones. For instance, the bow in the top photo had a metal clip attached to it and it is just too heavy.

As I'm sitting here typing this, my Mother In Law shared some brilliance she had with me. She told me that while I was filming the video, she was thinking about another use for Girlie Glue. She told me to start using it to hold Kodabug's headbands up so they do not fall in her face.

I've even seen photos of moms using it to glue little felt earrings on!

I love how easy Girlie Glue is to use and take off. Plus the little bows they sent me are just too adorable. Check out my tutorial on how to use it! (Plus you can see the adorable Kodabug).

Not only is Girlie Glue affordable ($5.99 a tube which will last quite a while) but it is natural and safe!

Girlie Glue is made with Agave nectar and other all natural Ingredients

It's safe, 100% Honey-Free and washes away easily with water.

Their branding is beautiful too!

I love their social media accounts, if you have a baby girl, or just love pretty, you should follow too!

Father's Day Gift: August BlueTooth Headphones

Disclosure: I received a product in exchange for a review. I was not asked to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

As I've mentioned before, and I'm sure any who follow me on social media know, I'm a geek. Well, my dear husband is an even bigger geek, so when I was asked to review August headphones, I knew they would be perfect for him.

You know how much I love first charge!

I managed to snatch this beautiful set of headphones away from the hubby to try out for myself. I wasn't sure he was getting them back. The BlueTooth technology was surprisingly easy to set up. The directions were very clear in the instruction manual. Within just a few minutes, I had them synced with my tablet, phone, and computer!

In the box was an instruction book, charging cable, and 3.5mm connector cable (along with the headphones, of course!). The cords that came with them are flat, which I prefer. I love that they can be used with the cable or BlueTooth.

The headphones themselves are great. They are very adjustable. The band that goes across your head is adjustable and padded. The around ear part is padded and swivels. I think this might be my husband's favorite feature. Lucky for him, I could not wear them for very long because of my Industrial piercing. Mine is very sensitive and was irritated by the padding. (I can't even sleep on the right side of my head though).

My husband loves these headphones. He uses the connector cable with his xbox. He has completely stopped using his Turtle Beaches. He just throws on the headset that came with the xbox and wears these over it. He said the sound quality is better and they are much more comfortable. This is great news since The August EP650 Headphones have a price tag of only $39.95.

He even takes them to work with him so he can listen to his music while he works without a cord getting in his way. Then, if the charge runs out (not very likely with a 10 playing time.) The USB cord can even be used to play through. Their are controllers on the headset as well for power, skip back and forward, and volume up and down.  Calls can even be answered without having to fumble with your phone! You can even use them on your PC and with VoIP software. I used them to record a quick Paralina episode and loved them!

Here are the specifications from their Amazon page:
- Bluetooth Specification: Bluetooth V4.0
- Operating Range: Up to 30ft
- Frequency Response: 60Hz - 20KHz
- Speaker Output: 30mW

No matter the hobby the Father in your life has, August has a solution for you!

May is Osteoporosis Awareness Month

Being a woman, Osteoporosis has always been something I was made aware of. I know that the risks are there and that my family history puts me at a higher risk. However, until recently, it was just pushed to the back of my mind with an "well, I'll know in time."

Now that I'm the mother of a girl, I see things differently. I want to make sure I do what I can to help prevent her from that fate. I also want to make sure that she is aware of all women's health issues as she gets older and that she tries to mitigate the health factors.

The American Recall center has lauched a campaign to help spread awareness for Osteoporosis just in time for May. Why May? Because May is Osteoporosis Awareness Month!!! Check out their site for more information.

Homeschool Resource: StartWrite

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

As I have mentioned many times before, we started homeschooling early so that we could find the resourses ad systems that work for our family. Some of this has proven to be an issue. I was designing my own worksheets, but I didn't really care for the look or complexity of this system. StartWrite rescued me.

StartWrite is an amazing tool for creating handwriting worksheets at home. It is completely customizable. You can change the colors, orientation, stroke, font, and even border. I love that you can even add pictures. I changed the letters for a tracing line so that Mac (who is only 3) has more guidance.

I could not find a single feature that was not customizable in this software.

We use them to create regular worksheets, but also math sheets and our morning book sheets. For this, we put them into a sheet protector and reuse them every day.

I like that the font can be changed, in fact, you can use the classic handwriting styles that are used in the classroom. Here are the fonts you should know: Manuscript and Manuscript Simple (Zaner-Bloser); Modern Manuscript (D'Nealian), and Italic (Getty-Dubay Italic).

Are you a homeschool parent or classroom teacher? Would you like this software for yourself? You are in luck, The Palmetto Queen is giving away one copy of this software. Just comment how you would use it for your chance to win. A winner will be selected randomly Thursday, May 22. Good luck!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Summer is Coming: #OrganizeMe

I don't know about you guys, but I am beside myself with excitement for summer to finally get here. Last summer we were not able to do a lot because of conflicting schedule, but this summer is already planned to be huge!

Our first get away is in just a few weeks and there are others in the works. Also, in the summertime, is my birthday (yuck, 30), our anniversary, Fathers day, and so many other reasons to celebrate. We end the summer with both of the kids birthdays in September.

With the fun of summer, comes chaos. I work at home, so working is difficult when schedules change. Because life does get so crazy, I have some posts coming your way that are sure to make summer life easier.

The posts will consist of tips for working at home, homeschooling, vacationing, camping, packing, planning, car rides, and even staying in routine throughout the crazy.

The biggest challenge for me in staying in a routine throughout the trips away from home, impromptu hikes, picnics, and days spent outside. My Tot Clock continues to rescue me over and over again by reminding us that it is bedtime even though the sun is still "awake." (You can even travel with them easily)

Well, because My Tot Clock is so amazing (read my review) they are offering a giveaway clock. To enter this contest, just comment on this post what is the most difficult part of changing schedules in the summertime. Use the rafflecopter widget below.

A winner will be chosen randomly May 22, 2014.

Martial Arts for Kids: A Homeschool Resource

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Being a homeschool family, we are always looking for new ways to challenge Mac. These challenges should be more than "just" math, science, history, and language arts. All of the arts, sports, and social sciences should be included as well.

We have been dying to get Mac in a Martial Arts class, but it is hard to find one that caters to preschoolers and has a wide range of the Martial Arts. When I was selected to review an online Martial Arts for Kids class by Phil Weaver, I was absolutely ecstatic. We have had to take them slow and even repeat each course a couple of times, but he is only 3.

While I love the whole layout of Udemy, this post is about the fantastic Martial Arts for Kids course.

One of my biggest annoyances with courses for children that involve other cultures is the lack of basic etiquette knowledge. I read a Japanese language book once that did not even mention the Japanese word for "Thank You." I know the word, but not everyone does. Other cultures' etiquette is extremely important, especially in the oriental cultures. That is one reason that I am so excited about this course. Greetings, salutes, and even tying the belt are included.

The main thing that is so great to me about Martial Arts for Kids is that it is actually a class in a dojo being recorded. The instructor is talking to the children and relating to them. I think my Mac felt like he was actually in the class.

There are 15 lectures in the course and they range from 5 minutes to 37 minutes in length. There is even a 23 page student handbook included. This course will be utilized for quite a while in our homeschool journey. It has even opened my eyes to the possibility of using more videos in our homeschool life.

Would you like your child to learn Martial Arts? Check out my Facebook page for your chance to win!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Father's Day Gift: CHIL Notchbook and #Giveaway

Disclaimer: I received a product in exchange for my review. I was not asked to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I will be sharing several Father's Day gift ideas over the next several weeks. If your guy is anything like mine, he is very hard to shop for. They never tell us what they want. I think this CHIL case will be a great fit for any tech savvy Daddy out there!

Our tablets are handy, yet very sensitive devices. If there are children in the picture, they are even more prone to accidents. This CHIL Notchbook is truly amazing with a ton of handy features.

The case is a hard case, but leather so that it is comfortable in the hand. It will protect the face. The suede on the inside of the case helps protect from scratches when not in use and feels great when holding it.

Can you tell this tablet has seen better days?

This particular case is designed to fit all 7" tablets, but there are some made specifically for other devices, such as the Ipad, nexus, and galaxy.

My absolute favorite feature is the "notch" that makes it easier to hold, especially when reading my Kindle app. I also love the folding front that allows it to be stood up.

This Notchbook has been a lifesaver, I'm sure this tablet would no longer be in existence if it were not saved by CHIL, especially how many times it has been dropped in the gravel.

Do you want to win your own? Comment on this post and tell me what your favorite feature of the Notchbook is. A winner will be chosen randomly on Saturday, May 17.

If you have a tech savvy guy, this is a perfect choice for Father's Day. Does he already have a tablet case? Check out their other accessories, like the slap bracelet stylus.

Life In The Spotlight: Everyone Needs Great Costumes

Disclaimer: I received a product in exchange for my review. I was not asked to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I'm written some about life growing up with my mom, but I'm sure there is something I missed. We always had a costume closet and a trunk full of accessories, makeup, and everything you could imaging to go with them. Everything from the actual costume, to pieces, old dresses, old suits, jewelry, basic stage makeup, props, and even shoes.

Every year when Halloween got close, we would rummage our supplies to come up with a new costume and see what needed to be picked up. Then, after Halloween, mom would hit the clearance racks and get everything we might need. Several years ago she got rid of the costumes because we are all grown. I kicked myself for not getting her collection. I have since started my own collection, even hitting the clearance racks after the holiday is said and done. I actually have 2 groupings of supplies. One set is accessories and makeup that is simpler (it is actually in a Halloween hat box from Lang). This is what I raid now for simple costumes, but also for when I need to be on stage (feathered false eyelashes, corsets, and even glitter hairspray). The other set is actually stored with our Halloween decor. This is actual costumes, my huge veiled witch hat, and even dark fairy wings. Thanks to Costume Super Center, I have an added addition to each set. I am also happy that I get some Old West Garb added to the collection.

I am in love with this costume. Looks like my husband and I will be one of those couples costume people this year for Halloween. My favorite thing about this costume is that it actually feels like clothes. It is very comfortable- perfect for a night of festivities.

The corset is separate so that it will look great on everyone. Just so you know, this corset will go in the Lang box that I pillage for events. I see me wearing it the very next time I MC an event. I'm sure it will be used in the future when Paralina does a period themed event and ghost tour.

Yes, it was time for a bathroom shot! Imagine this beauty with hair and makeup all glammed up and some gorgeous heels!

You really should check these guys out for all your costuming and stage needs. I'm sure they have what you are looking for and you will be impressed with the quality and price! Be sure to check out the accessories while you are there, especially the shoes!

Teach Math to ALL Ages With #Matics

Disclaimer: I received a product in exchange for my review. I was not asked to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

As I have written about many times on this blog, my husband and I decided that homeschool is the best choice for our family. Even though our oldest is only 3 1/2, we jumped right in about a year ago. It has definitely been a journey learning about how to best approach this adventure. One of the biggest challenges I have found is finding the right tools to use with a very advanced child without taking him into 1st grade levels. School at this age should be fun, yet challenging.

One of my favorite tools to date is Matics. Matics is a game to teach children of all ages different types of math, even adults enjoy it. This amazing game is great for teaching your children to count and will grow with them, even into division. I'm sure it could even be used in more advanced math. I am really looking forward to using Matics with both of my children as they grow. Mac can count, recognize numbers, and write them; so we are working on simple addition. Until Matics came along, we were using our fingers and an abacus. Matics is a great addition to our math routine. 3+2=5! (He was so proud of himself)

While the Matics deck has directions for some math games, we have been using the cards in different ways too. Mac was even teaching Kodabug to count with them. "See Koda, there are 3 moons, this is 3!"

Here are some ways to use them as a supplement.

  • To help visualize worksheets
  • Practice writing numbers
  • Counting
  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Word problems
I'm sure I will think of other ways to use them as we go along in school.

I am so grateful for people like Lisa Hayes, the creator of Matics, and everyone at Kabuki Helps. It is so nice to know there are people out there that want to help and that have a passion for math. In fact, I have a confession. Everyone in my family just loves math, and I have always been pretty bad at it (shameful!). History, science, English, or anything else I can handle. I even did decent in Chemistry. It is like once the word math come in, my brain checks out. I know my mother would get so frustrated at me when she was trying to help me with my homework. In fact, math is the reason for my anxiety with homeschooling. Matics to the rescue! I now have the confidence to know that my children can learn math at home, even if I am horrible at this particular subject. Thank you Lisa, Matics, and Kabuki Helps.

Be sure to check out Kabuki Helps for a wide range of educational products and games. There is something for everyone there. Teaching Little Ones Scripture with Godstruck Kids

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

One of the biggest challenges for me as a homeschooling mom is teaching my 3-year-old scripture. We practice a scripture memory verse every week, but that is not quite enough. I want him to learn to love scripture and be passionate about it. Thanks to Godstruck Kids, I have finally found the way to teach him scripture so that he will love it. This is our new Bible study for every morning.

Music- it is usually the answer.  I remember being in school and if I was having a hard time remembering something, mom would put it to music. When she would do that, usually in the form of a jingle, I understood the concept like it was something I had always known.  In addition, the church choruses we would sing in Sunday school have always stuck with me. That is how I know Godstruck Kids will be successful in teaching Mac scripture. He loves music and runs around the house all day singing, “I may never march in the infantry…” Mac just loves Christian kids’ music, so why not work some other learning in with it.

It is not just the music teaching the kids that makes me such a fan of Godstruck Kids, but there are lessons in the songs, and within the conversation between the children.  The script of the children conversing really is like how our children speak. The lesson ties seamlessly between the conversation and the songs. The lesson book (pdf) that comes with the program is really a help to, with these great lesson enhancement ideas, there are also coloring pages on the Godstruck Kids website.  I am so happy with the new addition to our homeschool curriculum.

Godstruck Kids is written for lower elementary and mixed aged children, making it perfect for an advanced preschooler. The program is written to seamlessly go from lesson to lesson, which makes it great for different schedules, ages, and even cognition levels.  To sample for yourself, and see how perfect Godstruck Kids will be for your Christian homeschooling adventure, listen here. You can also sign up for the monthly newsletter for Godstruck Kids, what a great way to get even more tips for teaching your children scripture.

Let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you. Use psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to teach and instruct yourselves about God’s kindness. Sing to God in your hearts.” (From God’s Word Translation)  As the theme verse for Godstruck Ministries 4 Kids, Colossians 3:16 speaks to the heart and soul of why this ministry exists. Our mission is to help children hide God’s Word and principles in their hearts through His wonderful gift of music. He has brought together a team of individuals who love the Lord and who have contributed the talents and abilities He has given each one for this vision to become a reality. – From the Godstruck Kids Mission Statement.

Lets Eradicate Childhood Cancer with #Duckprints and Aflac

This giveaway was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Aflac. I was compensated to participate in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.
As many of you may remember, I lost my Grandfather to Cancer in October. He had a rare kind of lung cancer that had spread to much of his body before it was discovered. He and his doctors decided on a chemo plan but he was not given much hope. Even with chemo, he wouldn't live long, but my Grandfather was optimistic. Eventually, he stopped fighting and said his goodbyes. He passed less than 6 months after his diagnosis.

I have lost many more family members to cancer, and watch many family members fight the battle. A family friend's child recently lost his battle with cancer. I want nothing more than to see this health tragedy eradicated. I never want to see another family member fight Cancer.

Luckily, science has made great leaps and cancer is much less likely to be terminal than it was even 10 years ago. In fact, the five-year survival rates for all childhood cancers combined increased from 58.1 percent in 1977 to 79.6 percent in 2003, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Aflac has been active in the fight against childhood cancer for nearly 20 years. During that time, the
company has been fortunate to meet many unsung heroes who have made a real difference in the fight
against childhood cancer. To honor these individuals, Aflac has created the Duckprints award. Duckprints
champions these heroes through ceremonies at childhood cancer hospitals, user-generated nominations on
www.duckprints.aflac.com and in social media. Thanks to donations made to the research and treatment of this disease, 75 percent of childhood cancers can now be cured.

The Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the largest childhood cancer centers in the country. Aflac is proud to have donated more than $87 million to the Aflac Cancer Center, with the goal of reaching $100 million by the end of 2015.

One of these Unsung heroes is Trisha Henry Gaffney, a cancer survivor and a patient of The Aflac Cancer Center. Trisha was first diagnosed with a rare cancer at 19, while a college student and swimmer. She went through chemotherapy. The cancer and treatment wreaked havoc on her body. When Trisha and her husband were ready to start a family, she found that one of the side effects was going through early menopause. She froze some eggs, and was later able to use a surrogate to have her daughter, Isabelle.

In honor of Mother’s Day and Aflac’s goal to help support the fight against childhood cancer, Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center for every post or tweet of former Aflac Cancer Center patient Trisha Henry Gaffney’s inspiring story using #Duckprints.

Do you want to help raise money to eradicate childhood cancer? Well, now through Mother's Day (May 11th), Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center. Just use #Duckprints in your social media efforts. Every tweet, retweet, Facebook post, or share will count in this fundraising effort.

Because Aflac is so amazing, one lucky reader of The Palmetto Queen will win a $50 gift card to restaraunt.com.
