Book Review: A Year Full Of Stories

I love reading to my kids. In fact, my favorite time of day is sitting on the love seat with a kid on each side and reading out of a story book. We have several we alternate between, and even repeat a few of them. I have recently had the chance to add another book to our night time reading basket. A Year Full Of Stories: 52 Folktales and Legends From Around The World has quickly become one of my favorites.

Angela McAllister and Christopher Corr did such a beautiful job on A Year Full Of Stories ($14.83 Amazon). This is a book that will most likely become an heirloom and it would make an amazing Christmas gift. I love the way these classic fables are illustrated and presented in a way that kids love. I have always loved hearing folktales from around the world and love being able to share that with my children. After we read a story, usually on Friday we choose this one, we will have a discussion about what the story is teaching and our different reactions to it. What a wonderful learning experience.

This book is presented almost like a devotional. The stories are broken down into months and even dates to help you read them when it is of the correct time of year, correlating with the seasons and holidays. There are stories from different cultures, allowing you to read stories that relate to lessons you are teaching. The table of contents include the correlating date, the culture/ religion/ country of oritin, and even the subject matter it is referring to. It is a great reference book, as well as a great family story time treasure. I love keeping this book handy, we read it often.
