We love advent calendars in our house and with the addition of the Thames & Kosmos Science Advent Calendar, I thought I'd share some ways we've used them and some ideas for them.
1. Countdown to the last day of school
2. Countdown to birthdays
3. Waiting for vacation
4. Counting down to the first day of school
5. Random "just because" surprises
6. Rewards for goals. We used one for getting the kids to clean up their rooms each day. I had gotten a couple on sale after Christmas and if they cleaned their room, they got to choose a window.
7. Rainy day activities
8. Boredom busters
9. Bring them out when friends are over and let each choose a window/ box
10. Advent calendars are also great to keep on hand to throw a "day" in a bag for a car trip, appointment, or restaurant.
The key is keeping them for a special event or reward.
