Press Release
The new bicycles will support physical fitness
programs for youth members.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Nearly 100 Verizon Wireless employees
teamed up to build bicycles for the children of The Salvation Army Boys &
Girls Club in Greenville. The new bicycles were presented to the children on
Nov. 13 at an event at The Embassy Suites Greenville. The bikes will bolster the
organization’s sports clubs and fitness programs to drive wellness amongst
youth members.
“The holiday season is a time of giving, and as we
enter this special time of year, our employees wanted to do something for the
children of our community, so we invited a community partner that serves youth
to be the beneficiary of our team building exercise,” said Brett Faulkner, Director of the
Verizon Greenville Call Center. “The Boys & Girls Club plays a crucial role
in shaping the lives of Greenville’s youth, and our employees feel strongly
about giving back to this organization that shapes the lives of our city’s future.”
Verizon
Wireless, a top Greenville employer due to its Total Rewards benefit package
that includes tuition reimbursement and health benefits, also invests in team
building and charity initiatives throughout the year. At today’s event, a
bicycle safety expert was on hand to supervise the construction of each spoke
and sprocket.
The Boys &
Girls Club of Greenville, located at The Kroc Center downtown, offers homework
help, fine arts programs, sports clubs and fitness programs, while educating
children about service and involvement in the Greenville community.
“We rely on
donations such as this to educate the youth in our community, not only about
sports and physical fitness, but also of the importance of community service
and giving back to our city,” said Mike Burdine, Executive Director of the Boys
& Girls Club of Greenville. “We are so excited about these bicycles and are
eager to incorporate them into our existing programs for years to come.”
