Homeschool Resource: Kids Academy Apps

Kids Academy asked me to try out some iphone/ ipad apps. While I do not have an ipad, I was able to try these out on a friends ipad. I was happy to do this because I love bringing you guys amazing homeschool and kiddie resources. These apps are free, and many are offered on Amazon as well. I encourage you to get them for your own children. You will not regret it!

Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games takes a montessori approach to helping children learn phonics, tracing, and reading. The app includes crosswords, sounds, songs, spelling blocks, and flash cards. The child can see the letter, trace the letter, hear the sound, and hear words that start with that letter. Then, they can play games- it doesn't get much better than that.  The app has a soft voice, 2 levels of difficulty, left and right hand modes, 2 levels, gives stars for performance, and is encouraging. The app takes them from tracing to writing at their own pace. They even learn age appropriate vocabulary. 

I love this app and so does my son. He even "taught" his sister her letters. 

Preschool and Kindergarten learning kids games for girls & boys is almost an all inclusive learning app for preschool and kindergarten. This app is amazing and your child will never get bored with it. It is also based on Montessori learning principles (which I love). This one is a little bit more advanced, but not so much that a child will get frustrated, more like it will push them to go that extra bit. With this app, they learn spelling, reading, and writing. I adore how the child earns fireflies in their jar by completing the tracing activity (especially since we spend evenings catching fireflies as a reward in our house). This app advances with your child's needs and aligns with common core standards. The curriculum was developed and reviews by a preschool education expert. 

Tbomb is very advanced for his age, but with apps like this, I can allow him to review in play without spending valuable learning time reviewing. It is great for when I'm working, cooking, or if we're in the car. Because of this app, I'm considering investing in an iPad for the family. 

Bingo ABC alphabet phonics  is my favorite of the apps I tried out. It is just so fun. I love singing with Tbomb, but this adds to the fun, while teaching him. He loves exploring the barnyard, the animal cards, and learning the animal sounds. I love that he can record his voice through the app. Music is huge in our house, so this app is automatically a winner. I love that it combines music, education, and games. 

Most items in the app are interactive, there is even a pond that Bingo and the farmer fish in. Everything comes to life- you can even make a flower grow! 

It is truly just an all around fun app. The baby even got in on the fun and was trying to clap along. Mostly, she just laughed at her brother and thought the recording of him was funny. 

I encourage you to go download these apps, they really are great. If you do not have an iPhone or iPad, check out the Amazon app offerings.

Have You Gone #Noseblind?

I received this amazing package from Febreze to conduct a #noseblind test. We were to have a movie night, complete with popcorn, and a few surveys. 

So, me, my husband, and my in-laws settled in to watch the 2 hour season finale of Mountain Monsters, have some popcorn, and discuss smells. 

What I learned: 

Our senses can become #noseblind to those smells in the house. We no longer smell them, but our guests can. This ability is actually a survival mechanism so that our noses are able to detect possible dangers. Pretty handy, actually. Imagine if we did not have this ability. Our olfactory sensors would be overloaded and we may not be able to smell gas, smoke, or even mold. 

We have several dogs and 2 kids, so I was concerned about what our guests would smell, even though I only smell the oils we burn. After the initial surveys were complete, I found that our guests could smell the dogs, although they could tell that we tried to mask the odor. 

The popcorn did hid the smell of the dogs for a bit, but by the time our finale was over, the dog smell was back. Febreze to the rescue! Within just a few minutes of spraying the couches with Febreze and lighting the candle, the room had a refreshing smell and the underlying smell of the dogs was no longer present. Yay!!! I've always loved Febreze, but now I'm really hooked on all of the products.

A Taste Of The Islands

I have had a fascination with leis since I was a teenager. The thought of stepping off an airplane and being greeted with such a welcoming as in Hawaii is what dreams are made of. My mother even made my 18th birthday a luau. Since then, leis have shown up from time to time in my life. When I think of them, I always drift back to a concert in Atlanta. I was 21 and Clay Walker bent down and put a lei around my neck. At that point, it was the high point of my life, and they always take me back. Even planning a party now, I think of that magical night. 

Hawaiian leis have more uses than being worn while in Hawaii. There are numerous colors to choose from. The leis are ideal for groups that are looking for something different to sell. People can choose which colors they want, and a bulk order can be shipped. This will save the group money instead of ordering a few at a time. Leis are also beautiful at birthday parties. A beach themed party wouldn't be complete without using leis. They can be given to guests as they arrive, or you can send them home as party favors.

If you plan on having a party in the summer, consider a luau. Leis can be worn by those in attendance, and you can decorate the tables with the leis. Each table can have a colored theme, or you can sporadically place leis around to create a rainbow effect. Guests can take one home at the end of the party. You can also use leis during a wedding shower. Get other decorations that have a tropical theme, and when the bride opens a gift, the lei of the person who gave it can be placed around her neck or on a poster so she can take all of them home.

I love this towel. We actually keep it in the car. Just In Case: Emergency Bracelet

I know that for many many years, mothers kept up with their children with no aid from products, but times have changed. Our children travel with others more and have become more independent in recent years. Also, with so many more crimes happening, it never hurts to have extra safety precautions. When KidSafetyBand.com asked me to review their custom bands, I was all for it.

We received 2 bracelets in x-small. One band has my son's initials (TMG) and the other says "If found, please call". The other side of both have my cell phone number.

The silicon rubber bands are very strong and have to be intentionally removed. The bright orange color helps responders to lost children quickly spot the band and contact you quickly.

I also appreciate that the information is engraved instead of stamped or painted on. There are several reasons- no one can glance and see information; and I don't have to worry about the information rubbing off.

The fit really is great and I don't have to worry about the wiggly Tbomb shaking out of the band.

My Thoughts: 

After using this serum for a couple weeks, I am highly impressed. It takes very little product to cover your face, so the bottle lasts quite a while. I love the pump as opposed to the dropper. It does take several minutes to soak in, but that is okay. For this reason, I do not put it on if I am wearing makeup that day. After it dries, my skin feels tighter- I like that because it makes me notice that it is working. Cherokee Fire Grill & Wize Guys Pizza: Best Restaurant Ever!

My family's favorite place to eat at the Cherokee Indian Reservation is The Cherokee Fire Grill & Wize Guys Pizza. It has the best fun atmosphere and everyone is so nice, and likes to visit with the patrons. I love that every time we go, the owner goes out of his way to come check on us at our table and even chat with us for a bit. (That is him below!)

Every time we go, we have our favorites that we have been looking forward to since we were there last. However, we usually get something different to split. The owner always comes to tell us what new is on the menu, and what we should expect the next time we are there. This time, he was telling us about the meatball sub (my hubby's all time favorite sandwich) that would soon be on the menu. 

I wish I had taken a photo of the yummy food, but I was so eager to dive in, the blogger in me got lost! If you follow me on Instagram, I'm sure you'll see one soon! 

They have great prices as well. The 5 adults and Tbomb ate on less than $50 without us being price conscience. That's rare somewhere with such good food! 

As you can see, the whole family has a good time. 

Although I am not a Cherokee resident, I consider The Cherokee Fire Grill a local hot spot and all visitors must eat there. The conversation is always great, not only with the owner and employees, but also the locals that just happen to be having dinner. Our last visit, I had a great conversation with a couple locals about local cryptids and the paranormal. 

I urge you to go in The Cherokee Fire Grill and Wize Guys Pizza next time you are in Cherokee, or just take a trip for the pizza. I promise it will be worth it! (Just be sure you tell them that you were sent by The Palmetto Queen)

I was impressed with the flavor and texture of the chocolate mix. It tastes like a chocolate milkshake with some vitamins mixed it. Yummy! The texture was the same. 

The vanilla, however, wasn't as impressive. I could taste more of the vitamins and minerals. It was a little harder to drink, but I have confidence that I could get used to it and even mix in some different spices, like cinnamon and even cloves.

Keep Calm and Hookah On

I have since bought a "Kiss On The Lips" Hookah Pen by Tsunami. Both of these flavors are amazing. The "White Spirits" is a lighter fruit flavor, but the "Kiss On The Lips" is a stronger flavor, but still yummy! 
The battery lasts quite a while longer than I expected. I often forget to turn it off (by clicking the button 5 times) and I haven't had to charge it since the first charge.
