Versatile Lantern Award: AYL #StarLight330
A photo posted by cari (@cari_on) on
AYL is one of my favorite brands. Their products are just truly amazing. I have their emergency flashlight for expeditions (actually I got one to review and we bought 3 more). This lantern is no different.
The AYL Starlight 330 lantern ($24.99 on Amazon) can be used in many different ways and runs off D batteries, which happen to be the only "large" batteries I ever remember to buy! The LED lights put our 300 lumens (which is pretty bright) and guarantees 100,000 hours of light. You get 6 full days of light with this lantern- we haven't replaced the batteries yet- which is pretty good since we use it for grilling, camping, and night sitting under the stars. This light has 3 modes- low, high, and flashing. It is super lightweight and water-resistant. We really can't ask for more than that.
The light can be set upright, hung in a tree, or even hung upside down. The cover provides bright 360-degree lighting while it can be removed for a more focused beam. I love the rubber that reinforces it. Not only does it help make it water-resistant, but also keeps it from slipping- brilliant!
While I have my mini lantern I keep in my pack, this is the best full-size lantern I have used. We will be purchasing more- so we have one for each tent, plus and extra for walking around at night. This is perfect when we have the kids with us and it is dark out.
Survival Whistle: 7-in-1 Survival Tool
A photo posted by cari (@cari_on) on
This awesome survival whistle is my new must have item when camping, hiking, bigfoot hunting or anything else. We actually keep it in the car in case of emergencies.
The 7 functions include a whistle, thermometer, compass, LED flashlight, sealed compartment, magnifier, and reflector. It even comes on a lanyard, and you get a free ebook when you order. The ebook is "Introduction to Survival Skills," and covers the basics you will need in a survival situation.
The functions of this whistle will help you successfully survive, and you can even more items in the sealed compartment, like fishing line, water tablets or other items you deem necessary. Do you take medication that you would need in a survival situation? Put extra tablets in that compartment.
This truly is a survival tool everyone must have.

| Tbomb looking at the falls |
There is a pond where little ones can feed the fish, picnic tables, gazebos, and more for families to enjoy. When you enter the park, you pass Isaqueena Falls, which is a location with a legend of its own. We like to walk the trail to Isaqueena Falls and look out over it from the lookout point that was built for safety reasons, eat lunch at the many picnic locations here, then venture on up and walk into the tunnel. The kids like jumping in the puddles formed from water running through the cracks of the mountain. I couldn't imagine living here if there was no Stumphouse Tunnel. It has shifted ownership over the years (at one point, we feared its destruction) and finally it was bought by private investors and had the management turned over to the city of Walhalla. There is a lot of lore associated with these locations and, unfortunately, there are some darker things that happen. I wish we could keep these people who wish harm out and I feel that if the park had access to the funds, something could be done about this. I nominate The Stumphouse Tunnel for Huggies' #UltraHug contest.
About #UltraHug
Huggies is rewarding 10 community projects each with a $2000 grant to help them out. We all have those projects we know and love- we also know that they could use the funds to keep things going the way they are or to improve features.
You can nominate a project as well. Take a selfie with your baby and share it to Twitter or Instagram. Be sure to nominate your favorite community project, use #ultrahug and tag @huggies. After you've done this, just head over to the contest landing page and submit your entry. Pretty simple, right?
About Huggies Snug&Dry Ultra
The older our babies get, it seems harder and harder to keep the leaks under control. Thanks to Snug&Dry Ultra diapers from Huggies, those worries are part of the past. No matter how much your baby runs around, the leaks will be contained.
Available only at Wal-Mart, Snug&Dry diapers fit babies newborn to 35 pounds. They are the only diaper to contain a quilted liner, gap-free fit, leak lock system, and quick absorbing layers for up to 12 hours of protection.
I just love the Disney designs- they actually make changing Kodabug easier. She looks at the characters while I get her ready for a new diaper- no trying to run away for her!
Head on over to Wal-Mart and look for this!
Press Release: QRead App Assists Dyslexics and Challenged Readers To Break The Reading Code
New York, June 1 -- Parents of dyslexic children can only imagine the frustration experienced by youngsters who have trouble grasping the written word compared with faster learners in school. The Qread app by AppiDabbi teaches reading comprehension and language using a fun, sophisticated yet simple ‘Direct Method’ of reading that breaks down language into pictures and animation while also explaining the meaning behind each word.
Key to the success of the program with dyslexic children is the app’s ability to stimulate conversation between child and adult, stimulating language skills and reading ability within one framework. According to the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity, all children can be taught to read. The Yale Center focuses on two components of the Qread program they list as central to teaching reading. First, the reader must understand that words are made up of smaller components that can be broken down for easier understanding. Second, children must apply their reading skills with repetitive practice reading stories. Qread stresses each of these objectives for students as both a supplement to school-directed learning or as a stand-alone program for adults or children with alternative educational plans.
Selected as one of the most promising early stage startups at the Collision Conference in Las Vegas, AppiDabbi principal Precila Birungik states “Qread benefits learners of language and reading comprehension at all levels and without regard to age.” The ability of the program to assist with challenged learners including dyslexics is a corollary benefit of the program we developed.”
Qread is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for around $4.99.
