Once again, I love Halloween. I spend entirely too much time in the Halloween isle looking at cute accessories and makeup. I even stock up for future years (and for stage wear) after Halloween.
In this photo, I'm wearing a witch hat fascinator with feathers, bold eyeliner, and huge eyelashes- I wish I had a picture of the eyelashes.
The year I did my interpretation of the wicked witch was by far my favorite costume- then my sex and the city witch (I just made it up by making a fun witch costume.
These days I like to just pick up a fun headband or fascinator and do some fun makeup. I like to keep things fun and creative. I stay away from scary for the kids.
So, I want to share with you some Halloween makeup inspiration. I will eventually decide what I will do for the big day.

It Is Okay to Eat Candy
Now that the little princess is 7 weeks old (crazy) I finally have time to think about dieting again. I didn't gain weight when I was pregnant- one more reason I didn't know I was pregnant. However, I have always been a heavier lady. I've battled with diets and was doing really good at the beginning of the year until I started getting sick a lot. I know that Halloween is not the best time to start dieting, but I have a plan!
As I said before, I love Halloween. I mean, I really love Halloween!
That means candy and cookies too. Every year, I say I won't eat any. Every year, I turn that into a lie and eat entirely too much.
Today I'm sharing a thought. It's okay to eat candy (and cookies).
Yes, I did just say that. What happens when we say we won't eat any? We end up breaking the rule and going overboard.
When we do things like this, all we end up doing is disappointing ourselves and causing a backslide that is worse. I always completely go off my diet after Halloween. It just sets the wrong tone for the holidays. If I could just get through Halloween without feeling discouraged, the rest of the holidays would fall in to place (or at least be better).
So, instead tell yourself that you won't eat as much. Or just say that you will enjoy the holiday and make up for it afterwords.
Either way, it is going to be okay. So, this year, work on not making promises to yourself that you know you will not keep ;) Enjoy Halloween!!!

Putting a Family Twist on Halloween
I have always loved Halloween and would celebrate the whole month with dress up days at work, parties, and going out on Halloween. All of that changed when I became a mother. In fact, that is one of the first things my husband and I realized we had in common- our love for Halloween. We have always carved pumpkins, made cookie houses, decorated, and dressed up.
My Halloween focus is now things that are appropriate for the kids (and a late night horror movie for me and the hubby). I have discovered some family friendly and safe activities to replace the partying of my youth.
- Trunk or Treats
- Corn Mazes
- Visiting Farms
- Apple Picking
- Pumpkin Picking
- Looking at Lights
- Town Halloween Festivals
- Fall Festivals (at churches and schools)
- Mall Trick or Treating
There are others as well.
It makes my heart happy to see all these activities that are appropriate for families. I especially like that kids do not have to go door to door to celebrate the fun of Halloween.

Be a Mighty Mom with Mighty Handle

I will admit something horrible I did. I left my camera with my mother accidentally, so I do not have the photos I took or the ability to take more. So, you'll have to take my word for how amazing The Mighty Handle is.
I'm a little strange, but I absolutely love to grocery shop, even with the kids. The thing I do not like is unloading the car. With the addition of the little princess, things are getting even trickier. Add to that any stresser, such as rain, and it gets even more difficult. Getting the groceries out of the car, through the gate, past the dogs, up the steps, across the porch, through the storm door and front door, and finally into the kitchen makes my blood pressure rise.
Mighty Handle to the rescue. Now, I can get most of the groceries in one trip. I end up with a total of 2 to 3 trips versus about 10. I get the princess in her carrier, the diaper bag, my purse, and any thing other than groceries (like library books, mail, etc.) in one hand, and Mac with his backpack leading the way. I get that settled and head out for a huge load of groceries, without my hands threatening to run away. Sometimes I do have to go back for another load, but that's when I have more groceries to buy.

The Mighty Handle even has a twist and lock feature that keeps the bags closed in your trunk. Just twist the handles around and your goodies will stay in their bags.
I wish I had these when I was in college and had to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to my room!
I am in love with The Mighty Handle and will probably get them as Christmas presents. How could I now when a pack of 2 can be bought for under $10 on Amazon?

Changes Come
Our family has changed a lot in the last couple of months. Our beautiful surprise little girl was born and our son turned 3. We are still dealing with my husband's crushed foot and I'm still adjusting to having multiple kids and getting back into loving my crazy beautiful busy life.
I lost my Grandfather this month. I was very close to him until the last few years. I just didn't have as much free time. I regret not spending more time with him, but he knew I loved him and I know he loved me and I have recently had someone tell me just how proud he was of me. It was a beautiful funeral with 4 ministers speaking. His burial included full military rights and a final resting place in a veterans cemetery. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I can think of another person more deserving.
My husband and I have been doing a lot of thinking about our goals for our little family. We have no intentions of having any more children, but there are things we want to do for our family and experience with our family that is demanding changes. We have decided that I will go back to work outside of the home. We are lucky enough that our kids grandparents are going to watch them while I work.
I'm excited but anxious about this change. It is going to take a lot of adjustments along the way, but I will be sharing these adjustments and the things I learn along the way. The Palmetto Queen will stay the way it is and hopefully be even better.
The change will come with Cari On Designing. I want to keep designing and consulting, but after November ends, I will only take a few clients each month.
